Autoimmune Disease

An autoimmune disease is a type of disorder that occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks its cells, tissues, and organs. Usually, the immune system can distinguish between the body’s cells and foreign invaders like bacteria and viruses. However, an autoimmune disease causes the body’s self-recognition mechanism to break down, leading to immune responses that attack healthy components of the body or an attempt to treat issues it would typically ignore.

Over 80 known autoimmune diseases disguise as chronic illnesses affecting the skin, connective tissues, joints, muscles, organs, glands such as the thyroid, and the vascular system. The most common autoimmune diseases are Lupus, Hashimoto’s Disease, Sjogren’s Syndrome, Multiple Sclerosis, and Rheumatoid Arthritis.

While there are no cures for autoimmune diseases, we will work with you to discover the triggers and create a long-term game plan to help manage the symptoms. We look to understand the entire picture and implement changes to your diet, physical activity, sleep habits, and stress management to help you feel better each day.

Through the help of Functional Medicine (a science-based approach to identifying and addressing the underlying cause of disease), lifestyle changes, and supplements, Dr. Booth will help you understand your autoimmune disease and develop a path toward a symptom-free life.
